TearticlepresentstheproblemshowthememoryofthePrinceofKievVladimirMonomakh
wasshapedinOldRussianliteraturefromthe12thto15thcentury.Teanalysisofhistorical
sourcescreatedinthisperiod,makesitpossibletoadvanceathesisthatthemythologizationof
thefigureofPrinceofKievwasnotalinearprocess.Suitable“conditions”foritsbroaderrecep-
tion,andthusmythologization,couldonlyoccurinthenewsocio-politicalrealityofthe13th
century.TeMongolinvasionandareflectionuponthecurrentsituationofRus,gaveriseto
theneedforamythaboutapowerfulruler,nomadslayer,whosenamefuelledfearstheamong
otherrulers.TeprocessoftheadaptationofthemythofVladimirMonomakhdidnothappen
simultaneouslyallovertheRurikidsterritory.InthenorthofRus,duetothespecificpolitical
situation,themythgotfullydevelopmentinthe15thcentury.
