Hewasagreatmathematicianwhostronglyinfluencedthedevelopmentof
severalbranchesofmathematics,aswellasthecareersofmanyyoungermath-
ematicians.Hisdeathcameasashocktoallthosewhohadboththeprivilege
andthegoodfortuneofbeinghisstudents,hiscolleagues,hisfriends,par-
ticularly,thoseattheSilesianUniversityofKatowicewhereProfessorLasota
wasworkingsince1976.
OnOctober23,2007,theCounciloftheFacultyofMathematics,Physics
andChemistryoftheSilesianUniversityofKatowice,wishingtocommemo-
ratesomuchregrettedpersonandwork,madearesolutiononestablishing
ProfessorAndrzejLasotaLecture
tobeorganizedannuallyonJanuary,starting2008.TheChapterofthe
Lecture,establishedbytheFacultyCouncil,hasbeenassignedataskofinvit-
ingoutstandingscholarsinthetheoryandapplicationsofsciencestodeliver
aLecture.TillnowthefollowingLectureswerepresented:
