Ukraine.Subsequentvolumesarebeingprepared,
thatis,acatalogueofprintsfromthesecondhalf
ofthe16thcentury,aswellascontentandformal
descriptionofthecollectionfromthe16thcen-
tury31,illustratedagainstthehistoryofthelibrary
andculturaltrendsoftheRenaissance,aswellas
the19thcentury.Theideatoconducttheresearch
andpublishthecataloguewasundertakenby
JolantaGwioździk.
Thebasisfortheresearchwastherecon-
structionofahistoricalpartofthecollection,
alongwithitsdiagnosis,documentation,descrip-
tion,andanin-depth,multifacetedanalysis.The
methodologyconsistedinseparatingthe16th-
centuryprints,basedontheextantcatalogues32
andbookplates,whichwashinderedbydefective
bookplatesaswellasthephysicalconditionof
thecollection(damagedcopies,withnotitle
pagesorfirstorfinalpages,withindecipherable
notesontheirprovenience).Theresearchwas
conductedintheSpecialCollectionsDepartment
oftheLvivNationalVasylStefanykScientificLi-
braryofUkraineandsupervisedbyOlhaKolos-
owska.Next,acatalogueofprintswascompiled
(byJolantaGwioździkandIwonaPietrzkiewicz),
whichwasdoneinaccordancewiththenorm
PN-N-01152-8Bibiographicdescription.Oldprints.

Anoutlineofthehistoryofthecollection,
aswellasitsreception,isimplicitinbookplates,
especiallywhentheyillustratesomeexcerptsof
collections,eithersecularorreligiousones,whose
record,alongwiththelocalizationandanat-

partofthecatalogue,aswellasveryfrequently

numberofprintswereboundattheturnofthe
19thand20thcenturies,whichwasmostprobably
theresultofsplittingtheoriginalbookbinding
blocks.Oldcoverswerepartiallydamaged;oth-
erswereunderconservationwork.Only10%of
coverscomefromtheepoch.:oards,andlight
anddarkbrownleatherprevailed.Theywereor-
namentedwithplaquesandengravings,andtraces
ofbucklefasteners.
Alongwiththeworkonthepreparationofthe
catalogue,worksonmicrobiologicalandphysico-
chemicalanalysiswerecarriedonbyTadeusz
Maciąg,whoclaimedthatthecollectionwasnot
microbiologicallythreatened,thepaperwasin
