INTRODUCTION
Attheendofthe19thcenturyEugenPander,aGermanscholar,1broughtfromBeijing
toBerlinacollectionofoldTibetan,Chinese,MongolianandfewManchutexts.After
theSecondWorldWarthebodyofwritingsfounditswaytoPolandandendedupin
themagazinesoftheJagiellonianLibrary.Panderhaddividedtheitemsofhiscollec-
tionintosixpartsdescribedasPanderA,PanderB,PanderC,PanderE,PanderFand
PanderPantheon.PanderAcontains369volumesofTibetanworks.PanderBcomprises
315volumes(xylographsinmajority)ofworksinTibetanlanguage.PanderCismuch
shorter-only40TibetanandSino-Tibetanvolumes.PanderEisacollectionofMongo-
lianandManchubookscontainedin12volumes.PanderFare68volumesoftheChinese
Buddhistcanon.PanderPantheonistheWanliKanjur-60volumes.
In2007-2009mentionedcollectionso-called“Berlinka”orcollectionofTibetan,
ChineseandMongolianandManchuage-oldmanuscriptsandxylographsofPander
storedintheJagiellonianLibraryinCracowwasexaminedforthersttime.Theteam
ofresearchersconsistingofProfessorMarekMejor,Dr.AgnieszkaHelman-Ważnyand
Dr.ThuptenKungaChashabcarriedoutaprojectnancedbythePolishMinistryof
ScienceandHigherEducation,whoseaimwastoprepareapreliminaryreportonthe
contentsofthecollection.
ThatrstprojectfocusedmainlyonthedescriptionoftheTibetanBuddhistcanon-
theWanliKanjureditioncontainedinoneofthepartsofthecollection-theso-called
PanderPantheon.However,therstteamalsoprovidedageneraldescriptionofallthe
componentsoftheTibetancollection.Theresultsoftheirworkhavebeenpublishedin
APreliminaryReportontheWanliKanjurKeptintheJagiellonianLibrary,Kraków.2
That(2007-2009)projectbecameastartingpointforworksonthePandercollec-
tion.Subsequently,in2011anewprojectwasstarted.“ScholarlydescriptionofTibetan
manuscriptsandxylographsofPanderAandBcollectionskeptintheJagiellonianLi-
brary,andcriticalanalysisofselectedexcerpts”-2011/01/B/HS2/01154-wasaproject
headedbyDr.ThuptenKungaChashabwiththeassistanceofDr.FilipMajkowski(Fac-
ultyofOrientalStudies,UniversityofWarsaw).Theprojectwasfundedfromagrant
receivedinPolandfromtheNationalScienceCentre(NarodoweCentrumNauki).This
newundertakingfocusedonpartsAandBofthecollection.
ThemaingoalofthesecondPanderprojectwastoprepareadetailedcatalogueof
PanderAandPanderBtexts-atleastasmanyofthemaspossible.Thus,all369vol-
