examinedpartly.Basically,duringthisprojecttherst104volumesofPanderBwere
scrutinized,howevervolumes32-50couldnotbetakenintoaccountastheywerein
averybadstateandatthetimeoftheprojectwerestillundergoingconservation.
AnimportantpartoftheprojectwasthecomparisonbetweentheJagiellonianLi-
brary’sPandercollectionandothercollectionsofTibetantextsavailableinmajorlibrar-
iesintheworld.Forthispurpose,twotripswereundertakentotheLibraryofTibetan
WorksandArchives(LTWA)inDharamsala,IndiaandonetoStaatsbibliothekinBerlin,
OrientalDepartment,inordertoassesstheavailabilityofcertainPandertitles(especially
manuscripts)inothercollectionsofTibetanwritings.
Methodofpreparation
Atthebeginningofeachtextlistedbelowonewillndaccessionnumbersgivenby
JagiellonianLibraryandgivenbyEugenPanderhimself.Forexample“Acc.No:Pander
A1:acc.1889.336,Tib.print325l.ShirabRinchenPhringwa”.Here“PanderA1”is
anumberfoundoncoveringpaperpreparedbyJagiellonianLibrary.And“acc.1889.336,
Tib.print325l.ShirabRinchenPhringwa”,isinformationprovidedbyPanderhimself;
“acc.1889.336”and“Tib.Print325l”andtitlearefoundontherstfolioofthetextand
textbindingsliprespectively.Wekeptthetitlesastheywerewrittenontheslip.Inthe
laterpartofthecollectionnotesareshorterthanatthebeginning.Pandergaveonlynum-
ber,forexample“555”or“678”andnumberofleaves,withoutacc.numberandtitle.
Asineverycatalogue,herewepresentallindispensableelementsforacataloguesuch
astitle,author,placeandyearofwriting,scribe,descriptionetc.bytheirabbreviations.In
traditionalTibetanworksallofthisinformationisgivenattheendinacolophon.There-
fore,weextractedandcopiedallthecolophonsfoundintheseworks.Ofteninprayersthey
weremissing.Alsothefactthatatexthasacolophondoesnotmeanthatitcontainsallthe
necessaryinformationforcataloguing.Pandermaterialsactuallyprovethatintraditional
Tibetanpublicationsdatesandplacesarelessimportantthanscribesandthosewhore-
questedorsponsoredthecompositionofatext.WhilepreparingthiscatalogueforthePan-
dercollection,PanderAandapartofPanderB,keptintheJagiellonianLibraryinCracow,
wewereabletocompareitwithseveraldifferentcataloguesaswellaswithamanuscript
listofthePandercollectionfoundatStaatsbibliothekinBerlin.Thesewere3:
