Introduction

Asdistinctfromthepreviouspart,thesecondpartofthemonographdiscussesthe

variousaspectsofthechallengesofeconomiccooperationfromthemesoeconomic

perspective,whichinvolveanalysingthechangesatsectoralorindustriallevelthat

differedfromeithermicroormacroeconomicview.

Thefrstchapterbeginsbyexaminingtherisingsignifcanceofrelationshipsand

interactionsbetweenmarketparticipants,whichlaythefoundationofthenetwork

marketconceptbasedonnetworkstructuresandnetworkeffects.Moreover,the

authorindicatesthedeterminantsofacompany’ssuccessinnetworkmarkets,

includingthedynamicsofthegrowthofanetworkcreatedorusedbytheenterprise.

Inadditiontothesedeliberations,thechapteroutlinestheothervitalaspectsof

networkmarketphenomenasuchasthefactorsshapingamarketplayer’snetwork

position,thechangesinmarketparticipants’behaviourundertheinﬂuenceofthe

networkeffect,andthecharacteristicsoftheconceptofthenetworkgood.

Thediscussionaboutthenetworkmarketsandtheforcesandmechanismsthat

determinethemisfollowedbyanotherchallengeofeconomiccooperationat

mesoeconomiclevel.First,thechapterdiscussesthegrowingimportanceand

strengthofaneconomiclinkagebetweenindustrializingVietnam,Cambodia,Lao

PDR,Myanmar,andtheGreaterMekongSub-region,potentiallyleadingtothe

formulationoftheregionalproductionnetwork.Thestudyinvestigatedthestructure

oftheautomobileindustry’sproductionnetworkintheGreaterMekongSub-region

byimplementingmethodssuchastheGrubelandLloydindexandtheunitvalue

ratioofexportsandimportstodecidethetypesofdivisionoflabourintheprocess

ofproduction.Additionally,thisresearchwasexpandedwithacomparativeanalysis

oftheEuropeanandNorthAmericancases,whichallowedtheauthortoconclude

thattheproductionfragmentationnetworkintheGreaterMekongSub-regionisstill

intheearlydevelopmentstage.

Thelastchallenge,whichisaddressedinthispart,involvesdiscussingindustrial

cooperationintheformofthetransferofarmsandmilitaryequipment.Theauthor

ofthischapterunderlinesthesignifcantroleofindustrialcooperationininternational

businessanditsvariousformssuchasstrategicalliance,jointventure,licensing,

subcontracting,andteamingagreements.Inthischapter,theauthoralsoexamined

theformsofindustrialcooperationinthedefenceindustryfromtheperspectiveof

theinternationaltransferofarmsandmilitaryequipment,whichallowedto

underlinetwogroupsofdeterminantsthatinﬂuenceindustrialcooperationinthe

armssectoranditsspectrum.Moreover,theauthoroutlinedthewayofactingonthe

partofgovernmentinstitutionsandthearmssector’sfunctioningasthedeterminants

thatsetfavourableconditionsforindustrialcooperation.

Theselectedissuesregardingtheculturalaspectsoftheglobaleconomicphenomena

aspectsarediscussedinthelastpartofthemonograph.Thefrstchapterbeginswith

acasestudyofKaruizawa,asummerresortinJapan,andthelocallyadopted
