Introduction

Globalizationisamultidimensionalphenomenonconcurrentwithhumankind’s

developmentoverthelastfewdecades,orevencenturies,assomeauthorsbelieve.

Nowadays,noareaofourlivesescapestheinﬂuenceofglobalization.The

introductionofthetermIglobalization’intheeconomicdomainisattributedto

T.Levitt,whoconducteddeliberationsabouttheimpactofnewtechnologiesonthe

foundationofglobalmarketsofstandardizedgoods,andtheroleoftransnational

corporationsintheseprocesses.Levitt’sinsightswerepresentedinthearticleentitled

TheGlobalizationofMarkets1publishedin1983.SincethenIglobalization’hasbecome

oneofthemostfrequentlyusedtermsinscientifcliteratureandjournalism.

Thismonograph–developedbyJapaneseandPolishresearchers–primarily

focusesontheeconomicandculturalaspectsofglobalization,asthesefactors,

togetherwithtechnologicalchanges,constitutethebasisforthisprocess.Itisworth

underliningthatmoderntechnologiesweretheinducementforcreatingnew

foundationsandadditionalincentivestoexplorethepreviouslyknownmotivesfor

thedevelopmentofeconomicactivity.Suchtechnologiesinvolvetheproduction

technologies,thesupplyofservices,andthevariousaspects,forinstancethose

relatedtotransportation,communication,anddataprocessing.

Atthesametime,itturnedoutthatthepermanentpursuitofproftmaximization

carriedoutbynumerouseconomicactors,includingenterprisesandindividuals,

causesmultipledistortionsassociatedwithglobalization.Thisobservationindicates

thenecessityofsomecoordinationofactionrulesonaninternationalscale,lacking

inthecurrentstageofthedevelopmentofglobalization.

However,inthisauthor’sview,thedevelopmentofglobalization,despitethe

disadvantagesanddistortionsthatitcauses,isinevitableunlesstheworldis

unexpectedlydevastatedbysomecontingency.Technologicalprogress,together

withknowledge,givesusthefollowingtoolstoovercomefutureobstaclesand

accomplishnewfndings,eventhoughtheworldeconomymaybetemporarily

experiencingperiodsofthecurtailmentglobalintegrationcurtailment,Iblackswans’

suchasCOVID-19.

Thismonographaimstostudyandpresentselectedchallengesthatarisefrom

globalizationanddiscusstheabove-mentionedissuesfromthemacroeconomicor

mesoeconomicperspectiveandalsoconsiderstheculturalaspectsoftheglobal

economicphenomena.
