Recapitulating,thelevelofsocialcompetenciesareinfluencedby
motivationaldispositions(needsandvalues)aswellasinstrumental
dispositions(abilities)thataredecisiveintermsoftheintensity,type
andeffectivenessofsocialtraining.Thesefactorsoperateininterac-
tionsandcanbemutuallycompensatedforinstance,despiteanun-
favourablesystemoftemperamentaltraitsapersoncangetinvolvedin
socialactivityanddevelophisorhercompetenciesthankstotheregu-
lativefunctionofthepossessedvaluesystem.
Fourstudieswillbepresentedhereunder,theresultsofwhichcan
serveasaninspirationforfurtherthoughttobedevotedtotheabove
issues.Inthefirststudy,theAuthorsinvestigatedtherelationshipbe-
tweensocialcompetenciesandemotionalintelligence,whichcancer-
tainlybeacknowledgedasaninstrumentaldeterminantoftheeffec-
tivenessofsocialtraining.Thesecondstudyconcernedtherelation
betweensocialcompetenciesandsocialinvolvementtreatedasoneof
themotivatorsincliningapersontoundertakeactionsthatformana-
turaltraininginthefieldofcontactswithotherpeople.Thethirdstudy
searchedfortherelationbetweencompetenciesandself-evaluation.
Thelaststudyconcernedthedifferentdeterminantsofsocialcompe-
tenciesofextrovertsandintroverts.

Theeffectivenessofanytrainingdepends,toalargeextent,onthe
possesseddevelopmentalpotentialinthescopeofagiventypeofex-
periences.Asalreadymentionedabove,socialandemotionalabilities,
ofwhichemotionalintelligenceisapart,playanimportantrolein
socialcompetencies.Emotionalintelligenceconstitutesasetofabili-
tiestoprocessemotionalinformation(cf.Mayer,Salovey,Caruso,
