ships.Itthereforeseemsjustifiabletoexpectarelationshipbetween
socialcompetenciesandemotionalintelligence.
225personstookpartinthestudy(108menand117women)aged
between13and60(M=35.63;SD=13.90).Therewasdiversityinthe
groupintermsofthelevelofeducationandplaceofresidence.The
SocialCompetenceQuestionnaire(KKS)byAnnaMatczakwasap-
pliedinthestudies(see:Matczak,2008).Itmeasuresthegenerallevel
ofsocialcompetenciesandthelevelofcompetenciesdeterminingthe
effectivenessofcopinginthreetypesofsocialsituations:intimate(re-
quiringcloseinterpersonalcontacts),demandingsocialexposureand
finally,callingforassertiveness.Emotionalintelligencewasmeasured
usingthePolishversionofthequestionnaireofSchutteetal.(INTE;
Jaworowska&Matczak,2001).Thisversionenablesbothageneral
indicatorofemotionalintelligencetobeobtainedaswellasaseparate
evaluationofitscognitiveandactioncomponent;thecognitivecompo-
nentsignifiestheabilitytorecognizeemotionsandtheactioncompo-
nentsignifiestheabilitytoemotionallysupportthinkingandacting.
