inEnglish.Consequently,wewouldalsoliketopresenttothewiderpublicwhat
wedoinourlocalworlds.
Secondly,inconsequenceoftheinitialdecisions,ourtextformatsarevaried.
ChaptersinPartI,TheoryandApplication(Chapters1–4),givetheprospective
readersbackgroundknowledgeoninterculturalcommunicationandintercultural
competencedevelopment.PartII,Practice(Chapters5–13),includesReadings
inUkrainianCulture,writtenandcompiledbyUkrainianacademicteachers
(Chapters5–9)andProjectsinPolishCulture,writtenbyPolishandinternational
graduatestudents(Chapters10–13).
Thisvolumecanbeviewedasprovidingasnapshotofvariousaspectsoflife
inbothcountries.Albeitsubjective,thebookreflectsthediscreteperspectivesof
theindividualauthorsasitprovidesthereaderwithanoverviewofthethemes
relevanttothecitizensofUkraineandPolandlivingatthebeginningofthe21st
century.Thecollectionofthesechaptersbearstestimonytothehistoricalmoment
capturedinthetexts,topicsandissuesfoundonthepagesofthisvolume.
Also,theparticularjuxtapositionofthenationsandtheirculturesofferedhere
opensanewperspectiveofunderstandingUkrainianandPolishmindsets.What

ducethemaintheoreticalapproachestointerculturalcommunicationaswellas

ofinterculturalcommunication.ThechapterdealswiththeroleofEnglishin

concludingpart,theauthorclaimsthatoneofthefunctionsEnglishplaysin
