EducationofTomorrow–Sinceeducationinfamilytosystemaspectsofeducation
Temodernfamilyisalsomoreandmoreplaguedwithdivorce,conflict,Euro-
-orphanhood.Itischaracterizedbytheconstantnecessitytoadapttochangingcon-
ditionsandtoundertakenew,ofenburdeningandstressfultasksandduties.
Asaresult,themodernfamilyispredominantlythreatenedby:
•
relationshipcrisisevokingthecategoryof“de-anchoringprocess”
,i.e.the
breakdownofemotionalbondsbetweenparentsandchildrenandtheremain-
ingfamilymembers;
•
familydisintegrationresultingfromdivorce,conflict,oreconomicmigration
ofoneparentorbothparentsandtheirlivingabroad;
•
childneglectstemmingfromvariousreasons(poverty,unemployment,par-
ents’job-relatedmobility);
•
lonelinessofchildren(causedbyparents’divorce,Euro-orphanhood,poverty,
parents’preoccupationwithprofessionalcareersinwell-ońfamilies);
•
pathologiesoffamilylife(alcoholabuse,drugabuse,etc.);
•
erodingtheauthorityofparents,senseofbeinglost,confusionofbothchildren
andadultsinrelationtothesystemofvalues;
•
deprivingchildrenoftheirnaturalneedofsecurityandtheresultingdistor-
tionsinshapingtheirpersonalities.
Inthecontemporarypost-modernfamily,especiallytheonethatfunctions
inthehecticrhythmofeverydaymodernlife,self-relianceisoftenimposedon
children;“childrenaretreatedascompetentincopingwithlifechallenges,asnot
needingsupport.”4
Thepictureofthemodernfamilysketchedabove,givingrisetomanyun-
settlingreflections,shouldbecomplementedwiththecharacteristicsof“super-
modernchild”inamodernsocietyasgivenbytheGermansociologistU.Beck.
Theseare:
•
thenecessityforthechildtoadjusttoanewformoffamilylife,withoutone
parentorbothparents;
•
thechild’sconsiderableself-reliance–hisorherreflectivenessthroughpartici-
pationindomesticduties;
•
thechild’sabilitytoco-ordinate–independentlyoftheparents–varioustypes
ofactivity,arrangetimetablesforhisorherleisuretimeandfindhislherown
timerhythmseparatefromthefamilyrhythm;
•
developmentofownspectrumofactivitiesbythechild,especiallyduringpar-
ents’absence;
•
lifeon“island(
islandareas)”andarrangingowncomplexsocialrelationsby
thechild(friendshiporgrouprelations);
