Theabundanceofsourcescreatedinthenineteenthandtwentiethcenturiesisoneofthe
mostcharacteristicfeaturesofthesourcebasisforthestudyofthelasttwocenturies,
andalsoaproblemfortheresearcherandsourceeditor.Thearticledrawsattentionto
thelackofstructurallearningsolutionsthatfacilitatetheundertakingoflargeeditorial
projectsrequiringyearsofwork(excludinggrants).Italsopresentsvariousmethods
thathavebeendevelopedintheeditingof19thand20thcenturysourcesoverthelast
halfcenturyinrelationtosourcesappearinginlargenumbers.Theauthordistinguishes
