thefactthathumanbeingshaveaconstantneedforfamilylife.Tatneedis
demonstratedbythematanylatitudeandinanyhistoricalperiodandinvarious
forms.Tereisnodoubtthat,ifwedefinethefamilyasallformsofsexlife
occurringwithinajointlyrunhousehold,thecrisisoffamilyisfarfrombecom-
ingareality.Weareratherwitnessingtheflourishingofwhatmightbecalled
alternativeformsoffamilylife(LATrelationships,cohabitation,marriagein-
tentionallychildless,andsame-sexcouples).However,ifweconsiderthefamily
merelyasamaritalorcohabitationalunitwithchildren,followingthetradition
ofthetwentiethcenturysociology,thefamilythusconceivedisobviouslyfacing
extinction.Tevastmajorityofsociologistsofthelastcenturydefinedthefam-
ilyinaccordancewiththeJudeo-Christianfamilymodel.Tismodel(woman
-man-children)hasbeencopiedbynumerousprimitivesocietiestoorganise
theirsexualrelationships,whereespeciallypolygamy(alsopresentamongthe
firstpatriarchsofJudaism)wasafrequentdeparturefromtheJudeo-Christian
culturalmodelofthefamily.
Overthemillennia,thebiologicalexistenceofcommunitiesandtheirculture
dependedontheritualofpairingofindividualsoftheoppositesex,moreorless
faithfultoeachother,providinglesserorgreatercarefortheirofspring.Whether
agroupwasregardedasafamilywasdependentontheexistenceofbloodties
inthisunit.Terefore,achildwasindispensableforacoupletobecalledafam-
ily.Currently,theterminologyinthisrespecthasfallenintoastateofdisorder.
Teambiguityoftheterm“family,”whichisnowadaysincreasinglyusedto
definealmostanysexualrelationshipbetweentwopeople,callsfordrawingan
arbitraryandalsohistoricallysanctioneddistinctionbetweenamarriedorco-
habitingcouplewithachild(family)andachildlesscouple.Whileacohabiting
relationshipwithachildshouldbeconsideredasaformulaforfamilylifedueto
