In1995,PeterDruckerforecastthat“Thetraditionalfactorsofproduction-
land,labourandcapitalarebecomingrestraintsratherthandrivingforces”and
“Knowledgeisbecomingtheonecriticalfactorofproduction”
*.Sincethenpublic,
political,andresearchinterestinknowledgebasedsocietyrelatedissues,
philosophies,challengesandpolicieshasincreaseddramatically.Ourabilityasa
societytomanageourexistingknowledgebasehasbecomethebenchmarkby
whichweareabletomoveforwardandexpandourknowledgehorizons.The
expression“avoidre-inventingthewheel”hasbecomethecatchcryjustification
forKnowledgeManagement(KM)principles.Knowledgebuildsonknowledge,
andmanagingexistingknowledgeavailabilityfeedsthegrowthoffuture
knowledge.Acquisitionofknowledge,throughefficienttransformationof
information,canmakethedifferencebetweenthesuccessandfailureofacompany
inthecompetitiveenvironmentofglobaleconomyandknowledgesociety.
KMintegratedwithitsmainsupportandimplementationplatformInformation
Technology(IT),becameoneofthefastestgrowingresearchareasdealingwith
enormouscomplexitiesrelatedtoourquesttoswiftlymovefrominformationto
knowledgeorientedglobalsociety.IThasbecomeespeciallysignificanttoboth
academiaandpractitionersinvolvedinKM.TheborderbetweenITandKMis
todayoneofthemostrapidlychangingscientificfields.Newtechnologiesand
conceptsaredevelopedonthisborder,andtheoldonesareinfluencedby,for
example,artificialintelligenceorsoftmodellingapproaches.Insuchanever-
evolvingenvironment,researchersandprofessionalsneedaccesstothemost
currentinformationabouttheconcepts,issues,trendsandtechnologiesinthisarea.
Tomeetthisneedtheconferenceon“InformationTechnologyandKnowledge
Management”(ITKM)wasestablishedandheldforthefirsttimeinJastrzebiaGora
