TeissueofteachereducationinPolandwasrecentlyinvestigatedbytheSupreme
ChamberofControl(NIK;Exercisingtheprofessionofteacher...,2017).Telatest
reportshowsthatteacher
educationrequiresadramaticchangeandthattheteachingprofession,as
aprofessionofpublictrust,shouldbeaspecialstateconcernsinceteachersare
educatingthenextgenerationofyoungpeople.Manyseriousallegationsinthis
reportindicatethat:
1.Tereisalackofmechanismsandtoolsforscreeningcandidatesfor
asociallyresponsibleteachingprofession.Terearenorecruitmentcrite-
riaforpedagogicalstudies,suchasprofessionalpredispositionsorthresh-
oldsforadmissions(NIK,p.7).Asaresult,unqualifiedpostgraduates
areincreasinglyadmittedtoteachingpositions.Inaddition,pedagogical
studiesareperceivedtobeeasy(Smak&Walczak,2015,p.30).
2.Tereisalsoalackofproceduresduringtrainingformonitoringcandi-
dates’suitabilityfortraining,suggestinganeedtochangetheprocedure
forobtainingprofessionalqualificationbyintroducinganexternalstate
examinationtoobjectivelyverifythatteachercompetencieshavebeen
acquired.Tisisespeciallyimportantnowthatthenumberofgraduates
inteachereducationisdisproportionatetotheneedsofschoolsandkin-
dergartens(NIK,p.6).
3.Teeducationoffutureteachersiscarriedoutbymanydińerentinstitu-
tions(universities,polytechnics,pedagogicalacademies,economicsacad-
emies,physicaleducationacademies,agriculturalacademies,musicacad-
emies,highereducationinstitutions,andteachertraininginstitutions).
Tisraisestheriskthattheeducationisofinsufcientqualityandthecost
forpublicinstitutionsisexcessiveanddisproportionatetothenumberof
educatorsneeded,sothatmanyofthegraduatesdonothaveanopportu-
nityforemploymentinschoolsandeducationalinstitutions.
4.Teprocessoftrainingcandidatesforbeingteachersisnotsystematically
streamlinedorperfected.Highereducationinstitutionsdonotspecifically
