Itisthereforeextremelyimportanttohaveprofessionalteachertrainingthatwill
helpteacherstobeopen-mindedaboutnewparadigmsandcreateadequateedu-
cationalpractices.Whatshouldtheprofessionalpreparationbe?Howshouldsuch
professionalpreparationbeunderstood,andinwhatlight?Howshouldthepro-
fessionaldevelopmentofpreschoolandearlychildhoodeducatorsbesupportedto
ensurethattheseteacherswillberefectivepractitioners,thattheywillberesponsible
learnersregardingtheteachingprofession,andthattheywillcontinuetheirlearning
toinitiatechangesandpartnershipswithchildrenandforchildren?Howcanteach-
ersbepreparedtoworkinamulticulturalsociety?Howcantheybepreparedtobe
caringteachers?
Byinvitingcontributionsfromacademicteachersofpreserviceteachers,
wehopedtofosterscientificdiscussionandreflectionintheinternationalcom-
munitythatwouldincludeaninterdisciplinary,panoramicviewoftherealityof
future(educated)teachersfromtheperspectiveofinternationalresearchaswell
asdetailedanalysesoftheproblemsfacedbyteachersofyoungchildreninthe
specificculturalcontextsofindividualcountries.Webelievethatadiscussionof
problemsrelatedtotheeducationofyoungchildren’steachersfrominternational
perspectiveswillprovideanopportunitytounderstandthecomplexityofthe
