InearlySmṛtithought,thescopeofthemodelisreducedtothecosmos
andisusedtoexplaintheroleofritualanditsvaliditywhiletheopposition
betweenaspectsofrealityisnotelaboratedinitsterms.Usingcognitive
linguisticsterminology,thegeneralmodelofRealityTransformationsisan
ICMexplaininghowtheworldhasbeencreated,howitfunctionsandwhatis
theroleofman.ThesetypesofICMsareinheritedbysuccessivegenerations
ofphilosophersandaretakenforgrantedbythem.
MyresearchontheRVsuggeststhatthesocalled4mythological’stories
aboutthegodse.g.,thefightofIndrawithVṛtra,areusedbytheComposers
assourcedomainstoconceiveabstractconceptsconnectedwiththemost
fundamentalphilosophicalquestions.Itshouldbenotedthatthemodelsbased
onstoriesaboutthegodsarerarelydescribedatlengthintheRV
.Forexample,
thestoryofthefightofIndrawithVṛtraisdescribedinsomedetailinonlyin
fewhymns(4.18,1.35).Inmostcasestheyareactivatedmetonymically,via
theirmostsalientfeatures.ThismeansthattheRgvedicComposersassumed
thateveryonerememberedthestoriesandknewwhattheywereabout.Atthe
sametime,however,itallowedthemtousetheirsalienceassourcedomains,
thetopologyandscenarioofwhichcouldbemappedontoabstractconcepts.
Thus,themodelofIndraFightsWithVṛtrahasbeenusedtoexpresscosmogony
andcosmologyinmoreconcretetermsthanthegeneralmodelofReality
Transformationandisalsousedforthesituationofthesacrificerduringritual
(Schmidt1992,Jurewicz2010).TheComposersoftheBrāhmanaselaborated
thissourcedomaininaritualcontextbutalsousedittoexpressthemoment
ofradicaltransformationofconsciousness(ŚB6.1.1.3).Inthesamecontext,
