immobilizationcausedbyinjuryortraumawithaviewtoselectingap-
propriatecompensatoryexercises,
e)assessmentofbodysymmetryanditschanges,especiallyinasymmet-
ricalsports(e.g.tennis,fencing).
Bodystructureisoneoftheimportantfactorsinfluencingsportsper-
formanceandisanimportantcomponentofthechampionmodel.Body
measurementsmakeitpossibletoassessthedifferencesinbodystructure
betweenathletesandnon-athletes.Differencesinthephysiqueofathletes
participatingindifferentsportsarealsocritical.
Particularlyimportantinthestudyofhigh-levelsportsareanalyses
ofsimilarityinthephysiqueofathletespracticingthesamesportatthe
highestcompetitivelevel,aswellasanalysisofchangesinphysiquein-
ducedbytraining.Learningaboutthephysiqueofthetopathletesina
givensportmakesitpossibletoindicatethesomaticphysiquepatternsfor
particularsports.
1.1.Measurementinstruments
Measurementsusedinkinanthropometryaremadeusingclassical
anthropometricinstrumentsandadditionaltoolsformeasuringtherange
ofmotion.Thisisasetofstandardmeasuringinstrumentswithacertain
accuracyofmeasurement(table1).
