AmericaandSouthAmericapresentedtheirresearchandengagedinlively
discussionsabouttheirwork,theirconcernsandtheirvisionsforeducation,
teachersandteachereducationat45thATTEAnnualConference.The
Conferencetheme,u(Re)imagining&RemakingTeacherEducation:Identity,
Professionalism,andCreativityinaChangedWorld”furtheropenedthedebate
relatedtothemainthreeconferencesubthemes:(i)uProfessionalvalues,
professionalteachersandprofessionalteachereducators:understandingtoday
buildingtomorrow”,(ii)uDevelopmentofteachercompetenciesforinclusion
andsocialjusticeinachangingworld”,(iii)uAddressingcurrentchallengesin
pre-serviceandin-serviceteachereducation”.Thesethreesubthemesfocus
theconferencedebateonexplorationsofpersonalandprofessionalvaluesof
teachersandtheirimplicationsforteachereducation,teachers’professional
learning,schoolleadership,andeducationalpolicy;onteachersasapromoters
ofinclusionandsocialjusticeinachangingworldandteachers’socialand
ethicalcompetencies;andonchangestakingplaceatschool,itssurroundings,
and
expectations
towards
teachers
formulated
by
parents,
principals,
policymakers,andcivilsocietyaswellasthecurrentchallengesinpre-service
andin-serviceteachereducationconnectedwiththoseexpectations.

discussionuCurrentIssuesinTeacherEducation”,aswellaspaperspresented
atparrallelconferencesessionsandpostersessionsshowedthatparticular
attentionshouldbepaidnotonlytowhathappensintheclassroomsbutfirst
ofalltotheworld,whichisadjustingtonewwaysoflivingandworking.
Thisrequiresengagementwithtrulydifficultissuesincludingdeep-seated
challengestoequality,diversityandinclusion,teachingforteachereducation,
artistryofteachingasarobustalternativefornarrow,evidence-based
understandingsofthecomplexworkofteaching,teachers’professionalism
andcreativity,teachers’sharedprofessionalvaluesandtheirprofessional
developmentandlearningoverthecourseoftheirprofessionallives,teachers’
resilienceandquality,andatthesametimethepersonal,professional,
organisationalandpolicyconditionsofteachers’workandlives,andthe
developmentofteachereducatorsandthereformsofteachereducation
programsareagainontherise.
