Introduction
Teeldoflifelonglearningencompassesadulteducationaswellasfamily,
pre-schoolandschooleducation,theeducationofthematuringgeneration
aswellasseniors’education,andformalandinformalaswellassocialand
professionaleducation.Developingacquiredknowledgeandskills,improving
qualificationsandgettingnewones,arethebasictasksofeachhumanbeingpar-
ticipatinginthecontemporarysocial,economicandpoliticalreality.Anarticle
byJasnaMažgon,“Whyresearchatall?Tepossibilitiesforimprovingteaching
practice,”touchesupontheissueofthedevelopmentofteachers’professional
qualifications,pointingtothepossibilityofimprovingthequalityofeduca-
tionalworkandteachingthroughthedevelopmentofresearchcompetences.
Teauthorfocusesontheactionresearchmethod,however,shealsoprovides
argumentsforageneralthesispertainingtoteachers’restrictedmethodological
experience.Tus,itisanexampleofsuchanareaoflifelonglearninginwhich
alackofengagingintheprocessoflearningdoneonone’sowninitiative,despite
anobjectiveneedforsuchstudy,ispresent.

asaresponsetothesuggestioncomingfromJasnaMažgon’sarticle.Tistext
concernstheroleandsignificanceofteamworkintheschoolenvironment.
Althoughtheauthors’reflectionsrefertostudents’teamwork,theadvicegiven
bythemcouldbesuccessfullyusedfororganisingteamscomposedofteachers,
forexampleteamsaimingatprofessionaldevelopment.Schoolpracticeofteam-
workhasagreatsignificanceintheperspectiveoflifelonglearning.Teability
toworkasateammemberisoneofthemainrequirementsthatpeopleapplying
forajobatvariouscompaniesandinstitutionshavetomeet.
Teaimoftheauthorsandeditorsofthisbookwasnottocreateacompen-
diumofknowledgeaboutthecurrentstateofthedevelopmentofeducationin
theeldoflifelonglearning,buttopresentacompilationofexamplesillustrating
areasworthconsidering,contextsandpractices,aswellascertainproblemsand
dilemmas.Wehopetoextendthiscompilationinthenextpublication.Positive
experiencegainedfromthecooperationbetweenourinstitutions-theDepart-
mentofEducationalSciencesoftheUniversityofLjubljanaandtheInstitute
ofEducationofJagiellonianUniversity-makesitprobabletoexpectthatthe
nextbookwillalsoprovethespecialvalueofthethoughtexchangebetween
SlovenianandPolisheducationalists.
