degreetowhichaleadertakesintoconsiderationtheneedsofsubordinates,actsfor
themasamentororcoach,andlistenstotheirfearsandneedsaswell[Judgeand
Piccolo2004,p.755].
Aleadermainattributeismagnifyinginpeopletheirdreamsanddesires.Burns
[1978]claimsthatrealleaderscanunderstandtheunconsciousmotivesoftheir
subordinatesbetterthantheycanunderstandthemselves.Inmanypeople,theytrigger
transferentialintheirnature,hopesandfaithina“bettertomorrow”,“betterworld”,
“betterourselves”,etc.Realizingnewprojectsandmakingweightydecisions,aleader
givestothesubordinateasenseofbeingpartofsomethingextraordinary,which
isthefulfillmentoftheirdesiresanddreams.Moreover,duetotheidentification,
subordinatesmayfeelbetterpeople;theirself-esteemincreases;theyfeelmoreself-
confidentandthustheytakeonchallengesmoreeasily.Intransference,aleadercan
arousepositiveemotionsandadesiretoacttogether,aneedforbeingnoticedbyothers,
forbeingagoodco-workerorsubordinate.Duetoarousingtrustforthemselvesand
hopeof“playingagreatrole…”,aleaderisthuscapableofmobilizingpeoplefor
unusualefforts.Heshowspeoplehowmuchtheycanachieve;hecanengagethemin
enterprisesofhighrisk,eveninthoseforwhichtheywillnotreceivepayment.Itis
becausesubordinatessubmittotheleaderahopeforthefulfillmentofdreams,which
werefirstrecognizedbyhimorherandthenbroughttolife.Aleadercouldeasilyget
intothepositionofanentrepreneur,becoming,forsubordinates,theembodimentof
theOmnipotentFather(theFatherGod).Thebiggestproblemwouldbe,however,
tomaintainthispositionwithoutcreatingfrustrationanddisappointment,which
couldcausedefiance,andconsequentlyendinthethreatofrageonthesideofthe
AlmightyFather.
Tosumup,theconsiderationsonthesubjectofleadershipinthetriumvirateunder
discussion,itseemscrucialtoemphasizethestimulating,integratingandinspiring
meaningofthisroleinanorganization,especiallyinthetimesofcreatingnewreality
(e.g.newenterprise/project,dynamicgrowth)andathoroughtransformationofthe
existingoneheretofore(e.g.fusionorovertaking,strategicrenewal,downsizing).
4.3.Administrative-managerialrole
Inthecontextofthetworolespresentedearlier,themanagerialrolemayatfirst
sightappearlessattractiveandmorepassé.AsmentionedbeforeZaleznikwrote
aboutit,tobeamanagerwhodoesnotneedneithergeniusnorheroism,butrather
persistence,toughness,hardwork,intelligence,analyticskillsand,whatisthemost
