Introduction

mationofthestateofmind.Tus,wearetalkingaboutexternalaswellasinternal
exoduses,exitandentry,andevenakindoftransgression-thecrossingofbound-
aries,bothpurelyphysical,material,aswellassymbolic,metaphysical,emotional
orspiritual.Asaresult,thephenomenonofmigrationhasbeeninterpretedon
manysemanticlevels,situatedinvariousdiscourses,andexaminedindiversecate-
gories,suchashistoricalandpolitical,economicandsocial,religiousandcultural.
Ithasbeenstudieddirectlyandindirectlyintheideological,spiritual,emotional,
andintellectualspaces.Itisfromsuchawide-rangingperspectivethatthismon-
ographpresentsthephenomenonofmigration,referredtoandidentifiedwithin
theboundariesoftheentireSlavicregion,definedthroughtheprismoffixedand
variable,universalandlocalcategoriesandculturalimplications.
Byintroducingthisbooktothepublic,wesincerelyhopethatitwillprove
interesting,inspiringandhelpfulbothtospecialistsacrossdińerentfields,aswell
astoenthusiastsofSlavicculture,whowillseeitsslightlydińerent,lessfrequently
unveiled,migratoryimage.
Fortherecord,itshouldbenotedthatthismonographwascreatedaspartof
thescientificprojectentitledCulturalimplicationsofthemigrationsofSerbsinthe
earlymodernera,carriedoutattheFacultyofPhilologyoftheUniversityofLodz
between2019-2023.ItwasfinancedfromthefundsoftheNationalScienceCentre
grantedunderdecisionno.DEC-2019/32/C/HS2/00452.Tevolumeconsistsof
materialsthat,intheiroriginalversion,werepresentedduringtheinternational
scientificconferenceentitledMigrationsintheSlavicCulturalSpace,heldatthe
DepartmentofSlavicPhilologyoftheUniversityofLodzonMay6,2022,incoop-
erationwithresearchersfromtheInstituteofHistoryBelgrade.Tissymposium
receivedanextraordinaryamountofattentioninthecirclesofspecialistsrepre-
sentingvariousdisciplinesofthehumanitiesandsocialsciences,becomingafo-
rumwhereresearchresultswerepresentedbyoverfifyscholarsfrommorethan
adozencountriesinEurope(includingBulgaria,theCzechRepublic,Greece,Ger-
many,Poland,Serbia,Slovakia,Hungary,Italy)andoutside(Brazil,Kazakhstan).
Tevolumehasathree-partstructure.Tefirst,whichhasastrictlymono-
graphiccharacter,iscomprisedoffivearticlesaddressingtheissueofmigration
oftheSerbianethnosinthe16th-18thcenturies.Tetextsincludedintheother
twosectionsprovideahistorical,cultural,andliterarybackgroundforthetopic
exploredinthefirstpart,broadeningthereader)sknowledgeaboutthehistoryof
Southern,WesternandEasternSlavsfromtheMiddleAgestothe21stcentury.
