Introduction
Traditionaluniversitiesbuiltinstitutionalstructureandpracticearoundthecentral-
ityoflibrariesinprovidingteachers,researchesandstudentswithaccesstobooks
andmanuscripts.Thoseuniversitiesalsocommunicatewiththeenvironment,like
candidates,alumni,business,anddecision-makersandsoonintraditionalway.The
revolutionininformationandcommunicationtechnologies(ICTs)haschanged
howpeoplecangainaccesstoinformationinwaythathaveshakenthefoundations
notonlyofthelibrary,books,press,etc.,butalsoofhighereducationandlearning
moregenerally.Nowadays,highereducationinstitutionsmustuseICTsinways
thatreconfigureaccesstoinformation,people,servicesandtechnologyitself.New
mediacanenhanceprogramsindistanceeducation,canattracttraditionalcourses
aswellcanimprovecommunicationinsideandoutsideuniversity.Butitisstill
openquestionastowhethertheywillbedesignedandusedinwaysthatenhance
thelearningactivitiesofindividuals,classrooms,library,administrationanduniver-
sityasawhole.Thesuccessofnewmediaimplementationinhighereducationare
enablingtherestructuringofuniversitiesinwaysthatmightsupport,undermineor
restructuretraditionalcampus-basedinstitutionsofhighereducationandblur
boundariesbetweenremoteandcampus-basedpracticesandinstitutions.
Thepurposeoftheinitiativehasbeenthepublicationofthediscussionswhich
tookplaceduringinternationalconferenceonNewmediaandhighereducation
opportunitiesandthreatshostbyUniversitytoEconomicsinKatowiceon15-17
June2015.Thisconference,organisedwithintheproject“Boostinginternationali-
sation.StrengtheningrelationsbetweenUniversity,candidates,students,alumni
andemployeeswiththeuseofnewmedia”providedwonderfulopportunityfor
academicsandprofessionalsfromallovertheworldtosharetheirknowledge,
skills,andexperienceinthefieldofhighereducationinstitutionsdevelopmentand
implementationnewtechnologiesandmediainprocessofeducationaswellother
activitiesofuniversitiesonverycompetitiveinternationalmarket.
Thegeneralmissionofthisbookistohelpacademiciansandadministrationstaff
fromhighereducationinstitutionstocreatenewapproachtousenewtechnolo-
giesandmediainteachingprocessesaswellforinternalandexternalcommuni-
cation.Itshouldbeunderlinethatmodernteachingandcommunicationinhigher
educationinstitutionsmustbedevelopedthatcoverstheestimationofsynergy
effects,thecompatibilityandinteroperabilityproblems,andbusinessandsocial
aswellethicalvaluescreation.
