INFLUENCEOFPIGLETSBIRTHBODYwEIGHT
ONTHERESULTSOFREARINGOFPIGLETS,wEANEDPIGS
ANDGROwING-FINISHINGPIGS
Currently,inpigbreeding,greatemphasisisplacedonincreasingthenumberoflitters.
Unfortunately,itisoftenassociatedwithadecreaseintheweightofnewbornpigletsandits
highvariabilityinthelitter.Weknowfromavailablestudiesthatlowerbirthweightleads
toincreasedrearinglossesinsucklingandweanedpigletsandanincreasedriskofdiseases.
Theaimofthestudywastodeterminetheefectofpigletbirthweightontheresultsof
piglets,weanersandfatteningpigsrearing.
Theexperimentalanimals(54intotal)camefrom5littersofsows.Pigletsweredivided
intotwoexperimentalgroupsaccordingtotheirbirthweight:groupL(≤1.80kg)andgroup
C(>1.80kg).Analyzed:bodyweightandgrowthrateoftheanimals,lengthoffattening
andmeatinessofthecarcassesderivedfromthem.
Itwasfoundthatsignificantdiferencesinthemeanbodyweightofpigsofbothgroups
weremaintainedthroughoutthestudyperiod.Increasesdailyachievedbypigletsduringthe
periodfrom1to42daysofagewereverydiferentsignificantlybetweenthegroups.There
wasalsoastatisticallysignificantefectofpigbirthweightontheheightofthestudiedpigs,
ietheirgrowthratefrombirthtoslaughter(L:590vsC:630g).AnimalsofgroupLalso
neededanaverageof11.64moredaytoreachslaughterweight.However,nostatistically
significantcorrelationbetweenbodyweightandleannessbirthcarcassesofbothgroups
(L:59.26%vsC:58.77%).
