ofhis/herowncountryisgoingtofinditeasytomaintainacooldistance,letalone
100%objectivity.Theoreticalawarenessandknowledgeisalwaysgoingtobeinfil-
tratedbyasubjectivitymotivatedprimarilybyalongingfortheembodimentin
realityofthatversionofthecountryweascitizen-residentsandmembersofsociety
wouldwishtosee.
Havingexpressedalloftheabovereservations,theauthorisleftwiththehope
that–shortcomingsnotwithstanding–thisbookmayprovehelpfulto"profes-
sionalsinthesamefield”,betheseexperts,diplomats,researchersorstudents,or
indeedallthosemanyotherswhomaysimplybeinterestedinPoland,sforeign
policy.Afterall,itisworthgettingtoknowtheforeignpolicyofone,sowncoun-
try,notleastinorderthatthatpolicymightyetbeinfluenced–ofcoursebyway
ofthedemocraticprocess–tobetterandmorefullyservetheinterestsofstateand
citizensalike,ratherthanmerelysatisfyingtheambitionsoftherulingelite,orelse
servingaslittlemorethananinstrumentinpoliticalinfighting.
