turrets,wasadoptedfromtheNord-Rhinearea,fromwhereTeKomturGünter
vonHohensteinwhofoundedthelaycastlecamelHowever,thosesolutionswere
onlyappliedinthisparticular,sensitivelylocatedcastle,whilethecastleinOlsztynek,
foundedbythesameKomtur,followedatraditionalmodelofcubic-likearrangement
withoutturretsprojectingfromthewallslTetechnicaluniquenessofŚwieciecastle
hasonlytwo,althoughspectacular,analogiesintheTeutonicState-inKlaipedaand
thevillageofBratian,pleasenote:bothofthemarefrontiercastleslAsmallcastle,
hostingtheseatofacuratoratNowyJasiniec(cal1392),nearlylocatedonthePolish
border-whichhasanouterwardanditsmainward,surroundedbyacurtainwall
(Parchammauer),spreadsaroundthemainbuilding-isaminiaturerealisationof
thepattern,usuallyappliedinmoresignificantandlargerconstructionslTelast
ofthediscussedobjectsisthecastleatBytów,locatedabout15kmfromtheborder
ofWesternPomerania,governedbytheHouseofGrifnslItwasonlyerectedinthe
years1396-1405duringalarge-scalebuildingcampaignwhichwastheTeutonic
responsetotheaggravatedpoliticalsituationaferthePolish-LithuanianActofUnion
inKrewoin1386lTeformoftheBytówcastleprobablygaineditsfinalshapeforboth
utilitarianreasons-atransitcastleformercenaries,aswellastheissueofprestige-the
castlebecametheobject-symbolwithmonumentaltowers,supposedlyembodying
thepoliticalambitionsoftheTeutonicOrderaswellastogenerateaweofitspowerl
