ume20).Transformedfromthepublishingseriesunderthesametitle,the
journalhasnotchangeditsinterdisciplinarycharacter.Thecurrentissueis
acollectionoftextswhichundertakeandexploreindetailthesubjectofThe
disabledinalocalenvironment.
Theissueofthedisabled’slifespaceisstilltopicalandcognitivelyin-
triguing.Mainlyduetothedynamicnatureofthisspace,politicalchanges
(includinglegalandorganizationalones)determineotherchangesinthe
institutionalspaceandlocalgovernment.Somequestionsareraisedconcern-
ingtherightnessofsocialpolicy,healthcareandservices,aswellastheques-
tionsaboutthestandpointsofthedisabledandtherepresentativesofvarious
institutions.Thepracticaldimensionofthedisabledpeople’ssituationintheir
ownenvironmentconstitutesbotharesearchfieldandaspaceforchange
achanceforthefuture.
Thelocalenvironmentisanaturalareawherethedisabledandtheir
familiesfunction.Whattakesplaceherearethemostmeaningfulinteractions
amongtheimportantactorsoffamilylife,neighbourhoodandsociallifethe
actorsatschool,atworkorininstitutions.
Overtheyears,thesocialperceptionofpeoplewithdisabilitieshaschanged
theawarenesshasbeenraisedthatdisabilitycanafecteveryoneasboththe
humanbodyandthementalityaredestroyable,fragileandpronetounfavourable
influences.However,notalltypesofdisabilityarefacedwithpositiveattitudes
towardsthepeopleexperiencingthem.Whatstillseemstofaceunwantedreac-
tionsare:intellectualdisability,mentaldisorders,substantialvisibledisability.
Thenormalizationofdisabledpeople’slifeisaslowpacedprocess,deter-
minedbymanybarriers.Therefore,itisofcrucialsignificanceforscientific,
