ofspecialeducationasanintrinsicpartofthewholeeducationalsystem.The
organizationalstructureofspecialeducationisthesameasininstitutionsof
mainstreameducation.Theessenceofspecialeducationisaimingatwideava-
ilabilityofeducationinschoolsforalllearnersaswellasensuringappropriate
conditionssothatlearnerswithdisabilitiescouldfulfillschooldutyinaway
adjustedtothepaceoftheirdevelopment.Whatshouldindicatethewayof
solvingeducationaltasksarethelearner’sneeds.Thisisoftenneithereasyto
implementnorbeneficialtodisabledlearners.
Italsooughttobetakenintoaccountthatscientificadvancementin
pedagogy,psychology,medicine,andrehabilitationhasenhancedbothsome
changesinstandpointsandgradualinclusionofthedisabledtosociallife.
Whatconstitutesatendencyofcontemporarysystemsofeducationisthe
beliefthatmainstreamschoolsshouldacceptchildrenandyouthregardless
theirphysicalorintellectualpotentialities.Suchanapproachhastwoaspects:
itrespectsdisabledpeople’srightsfromthestandpointofhumanrightsand
createsthepossibilityofcontactwithfullyablechildren,whichissupposedto
increasemutualbenefitsofbothgroups.Withgrowingfrequency,thetransfor-
mationsinsocialawarenessmakethesocietyviewthedisabledinthecategory
ofpartnership.Yet,itshouldbehighlightedthatthisisalongprocesswhich
requiresachangeinsocialmentality,creatinganappropriateenvironment
forfulfillingtheneedsofthedisabled,andprovidingfinancialresources.The
systemofeducationinPolandfacessomeimportantchallengesinthefieldof
fulfillingtheneedsofdisabledchildren.Themostsignificantarethefollowing:
creatingconditionsinaccesstoeducation(alsoatthestageofkindergarten),
levellinglifechancesfromthemomentofdiscoveringthedisabilitytotheend
ofeducation,betterqualityofteaching.Implementingtheseeducationaltasks
willallowthedisabledtomakeuseoftheirpotentialitiesanddecideabout
theirfuturelife,whichwillresultinbenefitsforthewholesociety.
Thepresentedissuecomprisesarticleswrittenbybothpractitionersand
researcherswhosharetheirexperiences,researchresultsandreflectionsinthe
areaofdisability,especiallyinthefieldofeducationalchallengesandsocial
support.
