TheADLABProjectandFunctionalisminTranslation:TowardsAudioDescription
Strategies
Thearticlepresentsaproposalfordevelopingaudiodescription(AD)guidelinesin
theformofstrategies.Theauthorreferstoresultsofastudyconductedaspartof
aEuropeanprojectADLAB:LifelongAccessfortheBlind.FollowingaqualitativeAD-
processand-productanalysis,theso-called“AudioDescriptionCrisisPoints”andthe
correspondingsolutionsweredetermined,whichmayformthebasisfordeveloping
audiodescriptionstrategies.Inthesecondpartofthearticle,theauthorproposesthe
applicationofthefunctionalapproachtoAD,whichhasbeenusedinbothtranslation
practiceandtheory.Theadoptionofsuchanapproachwouldalsobeanargumentfor
applyingdifferentaudiodescriptionstrategies,dependingonthepurposeoftheAD,the
texttypeandthetargetaudience.Itshouldbenotedthatsuchstrategieswouldinnoway
contradicttheexistingADstandards,butwouldonlysupplementthem.
