Removingbarriersandworldtradeliberalizationbroughteconomicgrowthand
prosperity.Liberalizationisalsoassociatedwithfreedomofmovementandtravel.
Globalizationhasbecomeatrendofglobaleconomy.Teeńectsofglobalization
intourismarepositive.Ononehand,theprocessleadstostrengtheningglobal
economicgrowth.Ontheotherhand,itańectssmallandmedium-sizedenterprises.
Smallandmedium-sizedenterprisesaretypicalforthetourismsector.Creating
acommonproductanditssuccessfulsaletothewesternEuropeantourismmarket
isanexampleofeńectiveapplicationofthestrategicmanagementinstrumentsin
thetourismsector.Short-termdevelopmentinthetourismsectorinSlovakiaafer
the1990sdidnotensurecompetitiveness.Today,wecanconfidentlysaythatover-
comingthegapinthetourismsectorwillrequireradicalsolutionsandsignificant
changesinfinancingthetourismsector.
Long-termdevelopmentofthetourismsectorinPolanddoesnotmeanthe
stabilityofcompetitivenessofthePolishtourismsectorinthesignificantlychang-
ingglobaltourismmarket.Itisnecessarytomonitorthepotentialofthesector
andtointroduceinnovations.
Slovakia,incomparisonwiththeCzechRepublic,PolandandHungary,has
gainedaninsufcientincomefromtourism.TeshareoftourismintheGDPis
comparativelylow.Applicationofstrategicmanagementinstrumentsisasuccess-
fultrendinthetourismsector.Tecooperationbetweenprivateandpublicsector
isaprerequisiteforthesuccessofbothSlovakiaandPolandintheglobaltourism
market.
FormanyyearsnowEuropehasbeenthemostpopulardestinationintheworld.
In2010alone,itwasvisitedby476.6mtravellers.Itdoesnotmean,however,itis
unbeatableasforthelasttwentyyearsAsianandPacificcountrieshavebecome
theirgreatestcompetitors.In2010,travellingtotheesedestinationsconstituted
22%ofthetotalshareoftheglobalmarketoftouristarrivalsand,accordingtothe
prognosesbyUNWTO,theshareisgoingtoreach30%.Takingtheseprognoses
