Abstract:RussiainPolishforeignpolicyinthepost-ColdWarera(politicalaspects)
Thepurposeofthecasestudyistohighlightthemainstages,andtheircharacteristics,in
PolishforeignpolicytowardstheRussianFederationinthetwenty-yearperiodaftertheend
ofColdWarera.TheparticularattentionhasbeenpaidtothemostrecentperiodinPolish-
-Russianrelationsthatfallsbetween2008and2011.AuthoremphasizesnewaccentsinPolish
foreignpolicytowardsRussia,whichwereintroducedbytheGovernmentofDonaldTusk
after2008.TheprincipalthesisofthecasestudyassumesthatthecharacterofPolish-Russian
relationsinthepost-ColdWareradiddependonRussiaanditsinternalandexternalpolicy,
includingthepolicytowardsPoland.However,itdidn’tdependonitentirely.ThePolish-
RussianrelationswerealsoconditionedbyPoland,Polishforeignpolicyand,aboveall,by
PolishpolicytowardsRussiaanditsWesternneighborsthathadformedpartoftheUnionof
SovietSocialistRepublicsbefore.Thesebilateralrelationswerealsoconditionedbytheexist-
enceofPolishgoverningparties’politicalwilltoimproverelationswithRussia.Bothsides,
PolandandRussia,areresponsiblefortheshapeofPolish-Russiandialogue.Inoppositionto
theopinionthatprevailsinPoland,theAuthorreckonsthatthesuccessivegoverningparties
inthiscountryaresomewhatresponsibleforthepoorconditionofPolish-Russianrelationsin
thepost-ColdWarera.InthecasestudytheAuthorgivesnumerousargumentstobackuphis
statement.
