ever,thisisnotjustatranslation,becauseallthetextshavebeen
significantlychanged,forexamplebysupplementingthebibliogra-
phy,correctingthecontent,combiningarticlesonsimilartopics,
aswellasremovingunnecessaryrepetitionsandnoticederrors.
Althoughtheindividualstudiesarearrangedchronologicallyin
thework(accordingtothesubjectmatter),thesixmainonesof
themconcernthesystemofpowerduringtheruleoftheemper-
orsfromtheFlaviandynasty(chapters8-14),whichistheresultof
