findoutwhattheresponseswere,perhapstakeamomenttoconsiderhowyouwould
haverespondedtothosequestions.
Itisprobablynosurprisetolearnthatthemostcommonanswerstowhatparents
wantedfortheirchildreninlifeincluded:happiness,confidence,contentment,bal-
ance,kindness,health,satisfactionetc.Inotherwords,theywantedtheirchildrento
leadhappy,fulfilledlives;theywantedwell-beingforthem.Inresponsetowhatthey
thoughtthatschooltaught,theparentsreferredtoquitediferentthingsincluding
achievement,thinkingskills,success,conformity,literacy,mathematics,discipline
etc.Tesearethetoolsofaccomplishment.Whilestudentsdoubtlessneedmanyof
thosecompetences,itisworthreflectingonjusthowmuchofthefirstsetoflifeskills
forwell-beingweconsciouslyaddressineducation.
