majorityofUNmemberstatessupportedUkraine’s

independence,numerousactors–includingtheUS,theEU,

Canada,JapanandAustralia–imposedsanctionsagainst

Russiaasameansofdisapprovalofblatantviolation

ofinternationallawandinresponsetotheRussianthreat

posedtothesovereigntyandterritorialintegrityofUkraine.

Crimea`sannexationhascausedseriousconcern

inCentralandEasternEurope.TheRussianpositiontoward

internationallawandtheterritorialintegrityofitsneighbors

hasbecomeanurgentpolitical,legalandresearchproblem.
