orcorrectnessofatheoryviasequentialcheckingthattheassumedcon-
ditionsarefulfilled(acomputationalversionofthemodallawsoflogic

truthnessofknowledgepropositionsandsentencesdependsonlyon
the,assumedtobetrue,context-relativepropositionsandsentences
thatfulfillallthenecessaryandsufficientrequirementsofasuitable
methodofcorroboratingthetruthnessofthesentencesconsidered;
thustruthnessiscontextualwithintheframeworkofexistingknowl-
edgeandinfluencedbytheselectioncriteriaadopted;
economists,psychologists,sociologistsandhistoriansuse,consciously
orunconsciously,theancientmathematicalmethodofproofbycon-
tradiction(i.e.assumingthatastatementisfalseandshowingthat
