inthetextualspheredescribingtheﬁeldofpsychologicalobservationsrelatedto

narcissism.Teyaretherebyrestructuredandsubjectedtothesignifyingcapac-

ityofpsychoanalyticdiscourse,thatistheirsemanticpotentialislimitedtothat

whichcanbecoveredbythelanguageofpsychoanalysis.Teimplicationofthe

textisthatsigniﬁcantelementsintheNarcissustraditionare,intheirpsycho-

logicalaspects,likelytobeexplainedbythetheoryofnarcissism.Teborder

zonebetweentheNarcissusthemeandnarcissisticphenomenaistherebywid-

ened.Butbythesametoken,theirregularityinthesystemisalsoincreased.Te

conceptthatRankusescannotbearguedtoexplainthephenomenawhichhe

therebyintroducesintothesystemofnarcissisticpsychology.Fromthecultural

semioticpointofview,thereisanincreaseinsemioticactivityattheperiphery,

whichisinsumcientlystructuredbythemodelingsystemsatthecentreofthe

semiosphere.

Finally,Freud)sarticle“ZurEinführungdesNarzißmus”(1914)-together

withthecomplementaryremarksmadeinthemetapsychologicalpapersof1915-

representstheconclusivetriumphoftheconceptofnarcissismovertheNarcissus

theme.Narcissismisnowsystematicallyintegratedatthecentreofpsychoana-

lytictheoryandtheconceptcompletelydisposesofitsdependencyonthetheme.

Narcissismherebecomesacentralcomponentinthelanguagesofmetapsychol-

ogyandparticipatesinregulatingtherelationsbetweenthedynamic,economic

andtopographicpointsofview,andthereisnomentionoforallusiontoNarcis-

sus.Furthermore,narcissismprovidesasystematicregulationofthepsychologi-

calphenomenathathavebeenassociatedwithNarcissus.
