LifeSciencesistheprimacyofethicalpracticeoverthephilo-
sophicalpreoccupationwithethics.Thefundamentalthesisof
thisworkisthatsciencerequirespracticalmodelsforethical
actionwithinsciencemuchmorethantheoreticalworkoutson
themetaphysicsofmoralityfromoutsideofscience.
Philosophicalethicshasfailedtodevelopasignificantimpacton
science.
Thisreferstoawareness-creationofethicalimplicationsofsci-
ence,aswellintermsofprovidingpreciseinstructionsofhan-
dlingethicalissuesinscience.Thissituationhasbeenfoundnot
improvable,forphilosophyisboundtotheoryandthinkingonly
-whereassciencerequiresdealingwithethicsinregardsofdo-
ingandaction.
Thevalueofphilosophyforbioethicsasatheoreticaldiscipline
cannotbedenied.However,theconjecturallevelonwhichphi-
losophydealswithethicsbothofandinscienceiscompletely
incompatiblewiththenecessitiestosolveethicalproblemsin
thescientificworkinprogress.Inthisregardtherelationofphi-
losophyandsciencecanbedescribedascompletelyasymmetric
andincompatible.
Thereforeanewmodelforbioethicsinsciencehasbecome
necessary.
ThemodelofIntegratedBio-EthicsinLifeSciencesgoesbackto
aninitialideaofPrzemysławPłonka,biophysicistattheJagiel-
lonianUniversity.
In1996heraisedtheissueofbioethicsfortheplannedfuture
FacultyofBiotechnologyattheJagiellonianUniversity.Afteres-
tablishingtheFacultyandapreliminaryrunof7years,in2007
theGroupforBio-EthicsinLifeSciences-GBLSstartedofficially
itsworkattheFacultyofBiotechnologyattheJagiellonianUni-
versity(henceforthUJ).
Upfromthefirstdraftoftheconcept,itwasclearthatBio-Ethics
needstodevelopanew,uniquesettinginLife-Sciencestobesuc-
cessfulandacceptedinscience.
