ofArabiccultureontheculturalheritageofPoland(ProjectNo.
2bH15015683fortheyears2016–2020).
Theresearchersfocusedonvariouselements,areas,andfinds,
startingfrommanuscriptsbyearlyArabtravellers,throughdirect
travelsbyPolesandthememoirstheyleft,theirparticipation
indiplomaticrelationswiththeArabworld,andending
upatscience,literature,andarts.Theprojectalsoincludedstudying
theroleofintermediariesofotherethnicoriginsinthetransferofthe
ArabiccultureintothePolishculture.Theresearchersalsopaid
attentiontothespiritualsphere,includingphilosophy,evenreligion,
aswellaslanguageandlinguisticissues.Asonemaysee,therange
ofinteractionsbetweenthePolishandArabiccultureshasbeen
extensive,multidimensional,andmultifaceted.
Aculturaltransferalsohappensatthelevelofphysical
manifestationsofculture.MonumentsofIslamicartcametoPoland
inamyriadofways:bytrade,assouvenirsfromtravels,including
pilgrimagestotheHolyLand,butalsoasspoilsofwar,
i.a.weapons,oftenofartisticvalue,horseharnesses,aswell
astents,carpets,andevenmanuscripts.TheSarmatismofthePolish
nobility–whichrenderedorientalproductsfashionable–fostered
theprocessofgatheringartisticproductsofArabor,broader,
Muslimculture.Latercenturiessawthetransformationofthe
collectionintoadeliberateenterpriseamongthePolisharistocracy
andbourgeoisie;thecollectionsoforientalartinPolishmuseums
