massive“importation”oftouristssothattheycanabsorbideasthatthe
countryintendstoexport.
Recently,therehasbeenmuchtalkinRussiathattourismhasbecome
ahostagetoforeignpolicy.Affectedthemostpopulardestinations.
ClosedairlinkswithEgypt(thecountry’stourismauthoritiesestimate
monthlylossesof$273million),sanctionswereimposedonTurkey,
andthedeteriorationofpoliticalrelationswiththeEuropeanUnionled
toadecreaseinthenumberoftripsofRussiancitizensthere.Ofcourse,
thedeclineinworldoilpricesandthesubsequentdevaluationoftheruble
playedasignicantroleinthecompressionofthedomestictouristmarket.
Asaresult,travelandleisurespendinginevitablywentdownfollowingthe
declineinrevenuedenominatedindollarsoreuros.
Duringtheeconomiccrisis,tourismasanactivityforobtaining
andconsumingimpressionsisatrisk.Spendingonleisureandcultural
consumptionisinevitablyreduced,whichisclearlyreected,forexample,
inspendingonNewYear’sholidays.Themodernworldisunthinkable
withoutinternationalcontactsandtouristexchanges,whichforman
importantpartoftheeconomy,internationalrelationsandglobalpolitics.
Inthisregard,thepositivedynamicsoftheentryofforeigntouristsintothe
countryisextremelyimportant.
Asworldexperienceshows,oftenitwasthetourismsectorthatallowed
statestosolveimportantpoliticalproblems,includingattheinternational
level.Thereareatleastveareasinwhichtourismisaneffectivetoolfor
globalpolitics.
Tourismasatooltoentertheglobalmarket
Tourismturnedouttobethe“neweconomy”ofthelastcentury.Ifin
1950intheworldonlyabout20millionpeopletraveledconstantly,bynow
theirnumberhasexceededonebillion.Tourismfortheeconomyisonly
thebeginning,becausethetouristowformsaninvestmentattractiveness,
which,inturn,allowsyoutoinvestattractednancialresourcesinrelated
industries-transport,foodprocessing,housing,etc.Manycountrieshave
successfullyimplementedthisstrategy.
