intheeducationalapproach,JanuszKorczakandStefaWilczynska.AsKorczak
wroteaboutthem:nIamafather,withallthefaultsofone-constantlybusy,never
havinganytime,goodattellingstoriesbutrarelydoingso.Stefaisamother;there
aretimeswhenshetooiswrong-butoneislostwithouther”5.
ShewastherealpartnerofKorczak.
ThefinalpanelisdedicatedtothedarkdaysoftheSecondWorldWarwhen
humanvaluewassevered,theperiodinwhichKorczak,Stefaandthechildrenwere
forcedtoleavetheirhome,moveintotheGhettoandfightnotonlyforthechildren’s
spiritualandmoralexistencebutmostlyfortheirphysicalbeing.nWiththeclose
specterofdeathhangingallabout,lifecontinued:thechildren’sorganizations,the
newspaper,schoollife,thedailychores,therecordingandcollectingofdata”6.
Korczak,StefaandthechildrenweremadetoentertheGhettoinOctoberof
1940toChłodnaStreet.Aftersettlingintheirnewquarters,theywereonceagain
uprootedandhadtomoveonceagaintoanotherhomesituatedbetweenSienna
andSliskastreetswherethelivingconditionsbecameworse.OnAugust51942
theadultstaftogetherwiththe198childrenwereallsenttothedeathcampof
Treblinka.
nThespiritfeelsalonginginsidethenarrowcageofthebody.Manfeelsand
pondersdeathasthoughitweretheend,wheninfactdeathismerelythecontinu-
ationoflife,itisanotherlife.Youmaynotbelieveintheexistenceofthesoul,yet
youmustacknowledgethatyourbodywillliveonasgrass,asacloud.Foryouare,
afterall,wateranddust7”.

Korczakseestheimageoftheeducatorasonewhosedutyistobewiththechild
inhistimesofdistressandhappiness.Itisthedutyofeducatorstofindtheirown
befitting,personalstyleonwhichtobuildarelationshipwiththechild.
