agoodopportunitytobreakawayfromschoolroutineandtoexpandtherangeof
activities.Thetripisinactualfact,ameetingwithobjectsandsights,ameetingof

Thesubjectofsustainingademocraticsocietyinwhicheveryoneisequalandin
whicheveryonehasanopportunitytoselfexpressionwasoneofthecornerstones
oftheeducationalvaluesofKorczak.Theframeworkofthechild’sgrowing-up
shouldallowforincreasedpersonaldevelopmentbutnolesstothis,itshouldenable
thechild’ssocialdevelopment.Mankindisnotanislandinhissurroundingsbutan
integralpartofsocietyinwhichhelives,thereforesocietyshouldalloweachand
everyonetobeapartofit.Itcanonlytranspireifweproducethetoolsforeach
one,theweakandthestrongtoexpressthemselves,developandbecomeintegrated.
Korczak’sapproachisinfavoroftheweak,thiscanbeseenthroughouthislife.
FromaveryyoungageKorczakwishestoabolishmoneyinordertobeable
toplaywiththegatekeeper’sson.Moneybringsaboutstatusdiferences,forming
barriersbetweenpeople.Asayoungchildhealreadyfeelsthatsocialequalityisthe
basisforsocialandpersonalgrowth.Hisentirelifecomprisesofmakingchoicesin
thisdirection.
Hechoosestobeadoctor-aprofessionthatisentirelyforservingmankind.
Unconditionally.Hethenchoosestobeapediatricianseeingchildrenaspowerless
humanbeingswithinasociety.Whilstheisstillayoungdoctor,Korczakopens
