Teindustrialcivilisationledtothebirthofahumanbeingwithimposed

subjectivity,thelearner(oremployedperson).Teirdominantfeatureremains

theabilitytodistancethemselvesfromreality,butnotfromthemselves.Because

thelearnerisabletotreatthemselvesasapartoftheworld,theygainacertain

degreeofautonomy,basedontheconceptoftheindividual-anobjectwith

speciﬁcproperties(independentoftheroleattributedtothem)(Obuchowski,

2001,p.164).Temarketrealityforcedtheindividualtobeopentochanges.

Teabilitytolearnandthefacultytogenerateup-to-dateknowledgeaboutthe

worldbecamedesirable.However,theindividualisincapableofindependently

determiningthemeaningoflifebecausetheIisstillsyncretistic.

createtheconceptofthedesiredself.Telearners)knowledgeonlyallowed

themtodevelopamentaldistancetotheworld.

Thepersonwhoreconstructsculture

Inthesecondhalfofthe20thcentury,theevolutionofself-determination

began(andisstillinprogress)intheconsciousnessofasigniﬁcantnumber

ofpeople.Itarosefromoppositiontotreatingpeopleasobjects.Moreover,

theobjectivestatusoftheindividualwasdeprivedofthesupportpreviously

providedbyculture.Tenormativefunctionsofcultureweretakenoverby

theindividual,buildingmoralstandardsandusingtheirowncreativepoten-

tial.Asaresultoftherevolutionofsubjects,apersondiscoversthattheyare

abletospecifywhatisimportantinlife.Tereconstructionofculturewithin

themselvesrequiresthedevelopmentofapersonalconceptofidentityandan

attitudeofcontinuouslyprocessingtheknowledgetheyalreadypossess.Te
