Otherspromotetheapproachwhichcombinesamultitudeofmethods.
Asaresponsetothewarcomplexities,theAustralianArmyhasreleasedthe
“AdaptiveCampaigning”doctrinewhichdescribestheAustralianapproachto
design.
In2009,Canadabeganworkingonthedesign.However,itwasnotuntil
2013whentheCanadianForcesCollege(CFC)introducedaformalcourseon
design,initiallyreceivedwithgreatscepticismandresistance.Tefollowing
yearssawagreaterintensityofdesigneducationcoursesforgeneralsand
seniorofcers;thistrendincludestheflagshipannualtraining,i.e.Shifing
Sands(JointCommandandStańProgram)andStrategicDesigner(National
SecurityProgramme).
TeRoyalNetherlandsArmyintroducedbasicdesignconceptsinofcer
trainingin2013.InPoland,thiseducationlinewasintroducedattheWar
StudiesUniversityaspartoftheAdvancedOperationalandStrategicCourse
in2016.TeSwedishNationalDefenceUniversitylaunchedasimilarproject
in2017.
Itwasbynomeansaneasydecisiontostarttheprojectandthusengage
scientificanddidacticresourcesintoacomplex,yetvagueandunclearmethod.
Teresearchbeganwithsystemstheory,organisationalchanges,anddesign
inthemilitarycontext,thestudyresultedinthemonograph,whichpresented
theSystemicOperationalDesignanalysisandMilitaryDesign.ItwasPoland’s
firstapproachtodiscussthedesigningandmilitaryoperationsplanning1.
WiththesupportoftheAmericansandthecooperationwiththeJointSpecial
OperationsUniversity(JSOU),themodulecurriculumwasdeveloped-this
madeitpossibletoońertheAdvancedOperationalandStrategicCourse
training.Eversincetheprojectonset,wehavebelievedthatourapproachto
militarydesigncannotbeacopy/pasteoftheAmericanapproach.Wehave
adoptedindividualsolutionsandhaveanalysedtheirusefulnessinrelationto
ourgeostrategic,historical,andculturalconditions,theoneswhichmaypose
achallengeinthefuture.SimilarprojectswerelaunchedintheDutchArmy,
