regardtomorphologicalprocessingIadheretothetheoryofNatural
Morphologywiththeaimofestablishingthedegreeoficonicitythatthechild
languageischaracterisedby.ThesyntacticstructuresproducedbyPolishand
English-speakingchildrenareanalysedinthelightofthreeiconicrules:of
quantity,sequentiality,anddistance.
Ascanbeseen,thisworkhasasitsultimategoalthepresentationofthe
earlystagesofmorphologicalandsyntacticdevelopmentinchildspeechintwo
typologicallydifferentlanguages,i.e.PolishandEnglish.Itaimstodescribe
similaritiesinthedevelopmentalpathwayintheselanguages,rootedinthe
uniformityanduniversalityofcognitiveprocessesgoingoninthechild’smind
irrespectiveofhisnativelanguageaswellaslanguage-specificdifferences,
resultingfromthedifferenttypologicalcharacteristicsofthetwolanguagesin
question.
