Tatiswhyidentifyingcooperativeandcompetitivetohealthsocialvalues

istheﬁrststeptosuccessfulteachingpeoplehowtolivehealthierandcopewith

diﬃcultiesinmakingdailydecisions.Itisimportantwhenwewanttoteachthem

howtocareabouttheirhealth.Tepointistoteachthemhowtochoosefrom‘the

socialoﬀer’ofvaluesandtodecidetofulﬁllthosewhicharereallyprecious.Tis

choiceshouldnotbebasedontraditionorsocialpressure,butonindividually

deﬁnedbeneﬁts.

Onewayoranother,treatinghealthasavaluefocusesonmanykindsofopin-

ionsandbeliefsreferringtosocietalbutunrealgoalsandactivityemergingfrom

thedutybutnotfromself-esteemedneed.Teindividualrecognizessocialvalue

butheorshedoesnotfeelit.Healthcanbealsoaninstrumentalvaluewhichen-

ableindividualstoachieveanothersociallydeﬁnedgoals.Aslongaspeoplewould

thinkthathealthisinstrumentalvalueandhealtheducatorswillteachthemthat

healthisabsoluteorautotelicone(ithappenswheneducatorsdonotknowhow

tounderstandsociologicalsurveysprecisely),thehealthpromotionandeducation

willnothaveanyspectacularresults.Tetruthisthatwemustlearnwhatpeople

reallythinkabouttheirhealthandfacethenewchallengesemergingfromthe

facts.Itisnecessarytoinnovateteachertrainingandriseteacherreadinessto

helptheyounggenerationtodealwiththechoicesandcurrentsocialproblems,

especiallythisconnectedwithhealth.

Firstly,wemustunderstandwhatisthesocialandculturalmeaningofhealth

inourculture.WeassumethatPolishsocietywillbebecomingmoreandmore

apostmodernone.Postmodernthinkersbelievethatsocietalvaluesandnorms

existonlyasawideframeworkforhumanthinkingandactivities.Inaworldof

"diversityoftruths”peoplerejectscience-basedexpertopinionsandcausalthink-

ing.Teydonotlookforscientiﬁcviewsorexplanationsandtheydonotseekfor

absolutevalues.Sociallydeﬁnedvaluesarerelative,contextualandseparatedfrom

collectivityofmeaningsbasedonintegratedsystemofvalues.Tepermissiveness

inachievingsocialvaluesimplicatesconvictionsofanarbitraldecision-making

possibilityandfree-formbehavior.Alsohealthseemstobelessandlessvaluable

despiteofmanyhealthinformationandpromotion.Moreover,providersofhealth

informationaredeﬁnedasunreliable.Peoplewholosttheirhealthareeducated

howtocopewithmedicalproblems,butarenotaskedhowtheyaregoingtocare

abouthealthpersonally.Whenlost,healthisnotavalueanymore.Tereturnto

physicalandsocialeﬃciencybecomemoreimportant,butpracticallyunsolved

problem.

Wecanseethatinmanydevelopedcountriestheauthorityofprofessional

expertise,politicalargument,scienceandtechnologyareinadvantagesstages

ofdeconstruction.Inmedicalsectiondiminutionoffaithinhealthprofessionals

andmedicalsciencearisesfromatleasttwocommonsources.Firstisthefailure

ofthoseauthoritiestoprovideanadequatesolutiontoseveralhealthproblems
