Tatiswhyidentifyingcooperativeandcompetitivetohealthsocialvalues
istherststeptosuccessfulteachingpeoplehowtolivehealthierandcopewith
difficultiesinmakingdailydecisions.Itisimportantwhenwewanttoteachthem
howtocareabouttheirhealth.Tepointistoteachthemhowtochoosefrom‘the
socialoffer’ofvaluesandtodecidetofulfillthosewhicharereallyprecious.Tis
choiceshouldnotbebasedontraditionorsocialpressure,butonindividually
definedbenefits.
Onewayoranother,treatinghealthasavaluefocusesonmanykindsofopin-
ionsandbeliefsreferringtosocietalbutunrealgoalsandactivityemergingfrom
thedutybutnotfromself-esteemedneed.Teindividualrecognizessocialvalue
butheorshedoesnotfeelit.Healthcanbealsoaninstrumentalvaluewhichen-
ableindividualstoachieveanothersociallydefinedgoals.Aslongaspeoplewould
thinkthathealthisinstrumentalvalueandhealtheducatorswillteachthemthat
healthisabsoluteorautotelicone(ithappenswheneducatorsdonotknowhow
tounderstandsociologicalsurveysprecisely),thehealthpromotionandeducation
willnothaveanyspectacularresults.Tetruthisthatwemustlearnwhatpeople
reallythinkabouttheirhealthandfacethenewchallengesemergingfromthe
facts.Itisnecessarytoinnovateteachertrainingandriseteacherreadinessto
helptheyounggenerationtodealwiththechoicesandcurrentsocialproblems,
especiallythisconnectedwithhealth.
Firstly,wemustunderstandwhatisthesocialandculturalmeaningofhealth
inourculture.WeassumethatPolishsocietywillbebecomingmoreandmore
apostmodernone.Postmodernthinkersbelievethatsocietalvaluesandnorms
existonlyasawideframeworkforhumanthinkingandactivities.Inaworldof
"diversityoftruths”peoplerejectscience-basedexpertopinionsandcausalthink-
ing.Teydonotlookforscientificviewsorexplanationsandtheydonotseekfor
absolutevalues.Sociallydefinedvaluesarerelative,contextualandseparatedfrom
collectivityofmeaningsbasedonintegratedsystemofvalues.Tepermissiveness
inachievingsocialvaluesimplicatesconvictionsofanarbitraldecision-making
possibilityandfree-formbehavior.Alsohealthseemstobelessandlessvaluable
despiteofmanyhealthinformationandpromotion.Moreover,providersofhealth
informationaredefinedasunreliable.Peoplewholosttheirhealthareeducated
howtocopewithmedicalproblems,butarenotaskedhowtheyaregoingtocare
abouthealthpersonally.Whenlost,healthisnotavalueanymore.Tereturnto
physicalandsocialefficiencybecomemoreimportant,butpracticallyunsolved
problem.
Wecanseethatinmanydevelopedcountriestheauthorityofprofessional
expertise,politicalargument,scienceandtechnologyareinadvantagesstages
ofdeconstruction.Inmedicalsectiondiminutionoffaithinhealthprofessionals
andmedicalsciencearisesfromatleasttwocommonsources.Firstisthefailure
ofthoseauthoritiestoprovideanadequatesolutiontoseveralhealthproblems
