tiontoitsvisualsphere.Subjectiveengagementoftheresearcherwhenconducting
fieldworkisregardedbysomeasaunnecessaryanddangerous,thusleadingtofal-
sificationofethnographicdata.Ourowneyescannotbetrustedanymore.Aradi-
caldisconnectionisneeded,agroundbreakingde-visualizationofanthropology,
whichcouldsavetheday(scientificobjectivism)-assomeofthosecriticssay.
miskindofcritiquehoweverdoesnotseethecloselinkofcontemporarycultural
processeswiththevisualbasis.mepresenceofnewmediaandvisualtechnologies
seemtoexpandtherangeofreferencesofhumanagencyincontemporaryculture,
especiallywhenwespeakofitsglobalcharacter.Ifthepostulatedde-visualization
wouldbeconsideredasapartofmodernanthropologyitmightfindsomeatten-
tionamongthosescholars,whoarefundamentallygroundedinthementioned
abovecriticalissues.IfseeingthenOther”equalsbelievinginouranthropological
knowledgeitalsomeans,thattheawarenessofthelimitationstoourscientificeyes
isasmuchimportantastheefiorttoproduceaparadigm,thatdoesnotimpose
anypowerontothepeople’slivesintermsofrepressionanddominanceasithas
inthepast.
