tions.Inparticular,inSection1.2wedescribeaninterestingswitchfrom
thepullarchitecturetothepusharchitectureofinformationtransfer.This
switchbearsconsiderableconsequencesfortheresearchpresentedinthe
dissertation.Next,weproceedtothepresentationofthemaindomainscov-
eredbythedissertation.InSection1.3wedescribeblogs,whichareanew
formofexpression,andweinvestigatehowblogschangethewayinwhich
informationisgathered,disseminated,andpublished.Section1.4isdevoted
toInternetforums,whichareanewformofconversation.Wedescribethe
natureofInternetforumsanduniquecharacteristicsofthiscommunication
medium.InSection1.5weturnourattentiontoanewformofeconomicac-
tivity,namely,toonlineauctions,andweshowhowtheemergenceofahuge
