Abstract
Itiswellknownthatlanguagesdifferinhowtheydescribethesamepieceofreality.Inthis
paper,theauthorexaminethatthecategorizationofsomeeventsdoesnotproceedinidenticalway
inFrenchandinPolish.OnthebasisoftwonounsofFrenchlanguageanalysedasanexample,ac-
cordingtotheobject-orientedmethod,theauthorshowsthatinsomecasesoneitemcouldhavefew
equivalentsinotherlanguage.Thelexicographicaldescriptionwasillustratedwiththeresultsderiv-
ingfromtwoexemplarynouns(storm,frost).Theselectionoflinguisticequivalentsdependsonthe
contextofunits.Itcausesgreatproblemsforthetranslatoraboveallfortheautomatictranslation.To
chosetheproperequivalent,thetranslatorhastoanalyseanumberofusesofunitandunderstandthe
conceptexpressedbytheexpression.

Pourdécrireetcomparercommentdeslanguesdifférentesqualifientlemême
fragmentdelaréalitéetcommentellesexprimentlesmêmesidées,nousavons
adoptélaméthodeconnuesouslenomd’approcheorientée-objets.Elleaétéélabo-
réeparprofesseurW.Banyś(2002a,2002b)etestactuellementappliquéedansle
DépartementdeLinguistiqueAppliquéeetdeTraductionàl’UniversitédeSilésie
àKatowice.
Laprésentecommunicationproposedediscuterquelquesacceptionsdessubs-
