1.18NowthebirthofJesusChristwaslikethis;forafterhismother,Mary,wasengagedtoJoseph,beforetheycametogether,shewas
foundpregnantbytheHolySpirit.1.19Joseph,herhusband,beingarighteousman,andnotwillingtomakeherapublicexample,intended
toputherawaysecretly.1.20Butwhenhethoughtaboutthesethings,behold[*],anangeloftheLordappearedtohiminadream,saying,
“Joseph,sonofDavid,don’tbeafraidtotaketoyourselfMary,yourwife,forthatwhichisconceivedinherisoftheHolySpirit.1.21She
shallgivebirthtoason.YoushallcallhisnameJesus,foritishewhoshallsavehispeoplefromtheirsins.”
1.22Nowallthishashappened,thatitmightbefulfilledwhichwasspokenbytheLordthroughtheprophet,saying,
1.23“Behold,thevirginshallbewithchild,
andshallgivebirthtoason.
TheyshallcallhisnameImmanuel”;
whichis,beinginterpreted,“Godwithus.”
1.24Josepharosefromhissleep,anddidastheangeloftheLordcommandedhim,andtookhiswifetohimself;1.25anddidn’tknowher
sexuallyuntilshehadgivenbirthtoherfirstbornson.HenamedhimJesus.

2.1NowwhenJesuswasborninBethlehemofJudeainthedaysofKingHerod,behold,wisemen[*]fromtheeastcametoJerusalem,saying,
2.2“WhereishewhoisbornKingoftheJews?Forwesawhisstarintheeast,andhavecometoworshiphim.”2.3WhenKingHerodheard
it,hewastroubled,andallJerusalemwithhim.2.4Gatheringtogetherallthechiefpriestsandscribesofthepeople,heaskedthemwhere
theChristwouldbeborn.2.5Theysaidtohim,“InBethlehemofJudea,forthisiswrittenthroughtheprophet,
2.6‘YouBethlehem,landofJudah,
areinnowayleastamongtheprincesofJudah:
foroutofyoushallcomeagovernor,
whoshallshepherdmypeople,Israel.’”
2.7ThenHerodsecretlycalledthewisemen,andlearnedfromthemexactlywhattimethestarappeared.2.8HesentthemtoBethlehem,
andsaid,“Goandsearchdiligentlyfortheyoungchild.Whenyouhavefoundhim,bringmeword,sothatIalsomaycomeandworship
him.”
2.9They,havingheardtheking,wenttheirway;andbehold,thestar,whichtheysawintheeast,wentbeforethem,untilitcameand
stoodoverwheretheyoungchildwas.2.10Whentheysawthestar,theyrejoicedwithexceedinglygreatjoy.2.11Theycameintothehouse
andsawtheyoungchildwithMary,hismother,andtheyfelldownandworshipedhim.Openingtheirtreasures,theyofferedtohimgifts:
gold,frankincense,andmyrrh.2.12Beingwarnedinadreamthattheyshouldn’treturntoHerod,theywentbacktotheirowncountry
anotherway.
2.13Nowwhentheyhaddeparted,behold,anangeloftheLordappearedtoJosephinadream,saying,“Ariseandtaketheyoungchildand
hismother,andfleeintoEgypt,andstaythereuntilItellyou,forHerodwillseektheyoungchildtodestroyhim.”
2.14Hearoseandtooktheyoungchildandhismotherbynight,anddepartedintoEgypt,2.15andwasthereuntilthedeathofHerod;that
itmightbefulfilledwhichwasspokenbytheLordthroughtheprophet,saying,“OutofEgyptIcalledmyson.”
2.16ThenHerod,whenhesawthathewasmockedbythewisemen,wasexceedinglyangry,andsentout,andkilledallthemalechildren
whowereinBethlehemandinallthesurroundingcountryside,fromtwoyearsoldandunder,accordingtotheexacttimewhichhehad
learnedfromthewisemen.2.17ThenthatwhichwasspokenbyJeremiahtheprophetwasfulfilled,saying,
2.18“AvoicewasheardinRamah,
lamentation,weepingandgreatmourning,
Rachelweepingforherchildren;
shewouldn’tbecomforted,
becausetheyarenomore.”
2.19ButwhenHerodwasdead,behold,anangeloftheLordappearedinadreamtoJosephinEgypt,saying,2.20“Ariseandtaketheyoung
childandhismother,andgointothelandofIsrael,forthosewhosoughttheyoungchild’slifearedead.”
2.21Hearoseandtooktheyoungchildandhismother,andcameintothelandofIsrael.2.22ButwhenheheardthatArchelauswasreigning
overJudeaintheplaceofhisfather,Herod,hewasafraidtogothere.Beingwarnedinadream,hewithdrewintotheregionofGalilee,2.23
