1.1ThebeginningoftheGoodNewsofJesusChrist,theSonofGod.1.2Asitiswrittenintheprophets,
“Behold[*],Isendmymessengerbeforeyourface,
whowillprepareyourwaybeforeyou:
1.3thevoiceofonecryinginthewilderness,
‘MakereadythewayoftheLord!
Makehispathsstraight!’”
1.4Johncamebaptizing[*]inthewildernessandpreachingthebaptismofrepentanceforforgivenessofsins.1.5AllthecountryofJudeaand
allthoseofJerusalemwentouttohim.TheywerebaptizedbyhimintheJordanriver,confessingtheirsins.1.6Johnwasclothedwith
camel’shairandaleatherbeltaroundhiswaist.Heatelocustsandwildhoney.1.7Hepreached,saying,“Aftermecomeshewho
ismightierthanI,thethongofwhosesandalsIamnotworthytostoopdownandloosen.1.8Ibaptizedyouin[*]water,buthewillbaptize
youintheHolySpirit.”
1.9Inthosedays,JesuscamefromNazarethofGalilee,andwasbaptizedbyJohnintheJordan.1.10Immediatelycomingupfromthewater,
hesawtheheavensparting,andtheSpiritdescendingonhimlikeadove.1.11Avoicecameoutofthesky,“YouaremybelovedSon,
inwhomIamwellpleased.”
1.12ImmediatelytheSpiritdrovehimoutintothewilderness.1.13HewasthereinthewildernessfortydaystemptedbySatan.Hewaswith
thewildanimals;andtheangelswereservinghim.
1.14NowafterJohnwastakenintocustody,JesuscameintoGalilee,preachingtheGoodNewsofGod’sKingdom,1.15andsaying,“Thetime
isfulfilled,andGod’sKingdomisathand!Repent,andbelieveintheGoodNews.”
1.16PassingalongbytheseaofGalilee,hesawSimonandAndrewthebrotherofSimoncastinganetintothesea,fortheywerefishermen.
1.17Jesussaidtothem,“Comeafterme,andIwillmakeyouintofishersformen.”
1.18Immediatelytheylefttheirnets,andfollowedhim.1.19Goingonalittlefurtherfromthere,hesawJamesthesonofZebedee,andJohn,
hisbrother,whowerealsointheboatmendingthenets.1.20Immediatelyhecalledthem,andtheylefttheirfather,Zebedee,intheboat
withthehiredservants,andwentafterhim.1.21TheywentintoCapernaum,andimmediatelyontheSabbathdayheenteredintothe
synagogueandtaught.1.22Theywereastonishedathisteaching,forhetaughtthemashavingauthority,andnotasthescribes.1.23
Immediatelytherewasintheirsynagogueamanwithanuncleanspirit,andhecriedout,1.24saying,“Ha!Whatdowehavetodowith
you,Jesus,youNazarene?Haveyoucometodestroyus?Iknowyouwhoyouare:theHolyOneofGod!”
1.25Jesusrebukedhim,saying,“Bequiet,andcomeoutofhim!”
1.26Theuncleanspirit,convulsinghimandcryingwithaloudvoice,cameoutofhim.1.27Theywereallamazed,sothattheyquestioned
amongthemselves,saying,“Whatisthis?Anewteaching?Forwithauthorityhecommandseventheuncleanspirits,andtheyobeyhim!”
1.28ThereportofhimwentoutimmediatelyeverywhereintoalltheregionofGalileeanditssurroundingarea.
1.29Immediately,whentheyhadcomeoutofthesynagogue,theycameintothehouseofSimonandAndrew,withJamesandJohn.1.30Now
Simon’swife’smotherlaysickwithafever,andimmediatelytheytoldhimabouther.1.31Hecameandtookherbythehand,andraised
herup.Thefeverlefther,andsheservedthem.1.32Atevening,whenthesunhadset,theybroughttohimallwhoweresick,andthose
whowerepossessedbydemons.1.33Allthecitywasgatheredtogetheratthedoor.1.34Hehealedmanywhoweresickwithvarious
diseases,andcastoutmanydemons.Hedidn’tallowthedemonstospeak,becausetheyknewhim.
1.35Earlyinthemorning,whileitwasstilldark,heroseupandwentout,anddepartedintoadesertedplace,andprayedthere.1.36Simon
andthosewhowerewithhimfollowedafterhim;1.37andtheyfoundhim,andtoldhim,“Everyoneislookingforyou.”
1.38Hesaidtothem,“Let’sgoelsewhereintothenexttowns,thatImaypreachtherealso,becauseIcameoutforthisreason.”1.39
HewentintotheirsynagoguesthroughoutallGalilee,preachingandcastingoutdemons.
1.40Alepercametohim,begginghim,kneelingdowntohim,andsayingtohim,“Ifyouwantto,youcanmakemeclean.”
1.41Beingmovedwithcompassion,hestretchedouthishand,andtouchedhim,andsaidtohim,“Iwantto.Bemadeclean.”1.42When
hehadsaidthis,immediatelytheleprosydepartedfromhim,andhewasmadeclean.1.43Hestrictlywarnedhim,andimmediatelysent
himout,1.44andsaidtohim,“Seeyousaynothingtoanybody,butgoshowyourselftothepriest,andofferforyourcleansingthethings
whichMosescommanded,foratestimonytothem.”
1.45Buthewentout,andbegantoproclaimitmuch,andtospreadaboutthematter,sothatJesuscouldnomoreopenlyenterintoacity,
butwasoutsideindesertplaces:andtheycametohimfromeverywhere.

2.1WhenheenteredagainintoCapernaumaftersomedays,itwasheardthathewasinthehouse.2.2Immediatelymanyweregathered
together,sothattherewasnomoreroom,notevenaroundthedoor;andhespokethewordtothem.2.3Fourpeoplecame,carrying
aparalytictohim.2.4Whentheycouldnotcomeneartohimforthecrowd,theyremovedtheroofwherehewas.Whentheyhadbroken
itup,theyletdownthematthattheparalyticwaslyingon.2.5Jesus,seeingtheirfaith,saidtotheparalytic,“Son,yoursinsareforgiven
you.”
2.6Butthereweresomeofthescribessittingthere,andreasoningintheirhearts,2.7“Whydoesthismanspeakblasphemieslikethat?Who
canforgivesinsbutGodalone?”
2.8ImmediatelyJesus,perceivinginhisspiritthattheysoreasonedwithinthemselves,saidtothem,“Whydoyoureasonthesethings
inyourhearts?2.9Whichiseasier,totelltheparalytic,‘Yoursinsareforgiven;’ortosay,‘Arise,andtakeupyourbed,andwalk?’2.10But
thatyoumayknowthattheSonofManhasauthorityonearthtoforgivesins”—hesaidtotheparalytic—2.11“Itellyou,arise,takeupyour
mat,andgotoyourhouse.”
2.12Hearose,andimmediatelytookupthemat,andwentoutinfrontofthemall;sothattheywereallamazed,andglorifiedGod,saying,
“Weneversawanythinglikethis!”
2.13Hewentoutagainbytheseaside.Allthemultitudecametohim,andhetaughtthem.2.14Ashepassedby,hesawLevi,theson
ofAlphaeus,sittingatthetaxoffice,andhesaidtohim,“Followme.”Andhearoseandfollowedhim.
2.15Hewasrecliningatthetableinhishouse,andmanytaxcollectorsandsinnerssatdownwithJesusandhisdisciples,fortherewere
